The Local Administrative Entities Development Agency (LODA) has launched the “My Phone, My Money” campaign to encourage beneficiaries of the Vision 2020 Umurenge Program (VUP) to link their SACCO accounts with SIM cards registered in their names.
The initiative, already active in Burera, Nyamagabe, and Rusizi districts, aims to expand digital payments, allowing citizens to withdraw, deposit, and pay for services via mobile phones.
In Gicumbi District, residents say the program has reduced long trips to SACCO branches, cut financial risks, and freed up time for income-generating activities.
LODA Director General Claudine Nyinawagaga said the new system will help speed up government efforts to lift people out of poverty.
