Kamonyi District, Rwanda – A 42-year-old man from Rugwiro Village, Kidahwe Cell, Nyamiyaga Sector, has been arrested for the alleged rape of his 9-year-old biological daughter, an incident that has left the community in shock and outrage.
The horrific act reportedly took place on the night of July 26, 2025. Upon receiving the report, local authorities, including the District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO) and the Reserve Force, immediately responded and conducted a successful manhunt. The suspect was arrested and transferred to Mugina RIB Station for investigation and possible prosecution.
Incident Exposed by Victim’s Brother
According to eyewitness accounts shared with intyoza.com, the crime came to light when the young girl’s brother allegedly witnessed his father committing the assault. He screamed and tried to intervene, which alerted neighbors and ultimately led to the arrest.
Victim Receives Immediate Medical Care
While the suspect was detained and handed over to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), the child was rushed to Nyamiyaga Health Center for immediate medical attention and support.
Local Authorities Confirm the Case
Rafiki Mwizerwa, the recently appointed Executive Secretary of Nyamiyaga Sector, confirmed the case to media. Though currently on official leave, he assured the public that the suspect is in custody and that investigations are ongoing.
Call for Community Vigilance
This case has sparked renewed calls for stronger child protection measures and community vigilance. Local leaders are urging residents to report any signs of abuse or violence promptly and to stand against any form of gender-based or child-targeted violence.

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau is leading the case and has pledged to ensure justice is served. Under Rwanda’s laws, crimes of this nature carry severe penalties, especially involving minor victims.
