NIRDA Staff Honor Colleagues Killed in the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi

An emotional testimony from genocide survivor Nyirakariza moved attendees during a ceremony organized by NIRDA to remember former workers killed in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Speaking at the event, Nyirakariza described the suffering he witnessed while hiding in several locations during the genocide.

He said he saw mothers, children, and prisoners brutally killed, adding that some people were tricked into believing they were being rescued while they were actually being taken to execution sites.

Nyirakariza also spoke about cases of sexual violence committed against women hiding in safe zones.

The survivor questioned why genocide denial still exists despite the large number of witnesses and survivors.

Local leaders attending the event urged citizens to preserve Rwanda’s unity and reject all forms of divisionism and genocide ideology.
