President Kagame Urges African Governments to Better Support Private Sector

During the ongoing Africa CEO Forum 2026 in Kigali, Paul Kagame emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration between governments and the private sector in driving Africa’s growth.

Responding to a question about the role of businesses in Africa’s development, Kagame said the private sector has performed well despite facing challenges linked to government systems and policies.

He noted that closer cooperation between state institutions and businesses would create shared benefits for the continent and help unlock greater economic progress.

“The private sector is working well, but it would be even more effective if there was stronger cooperation with governments because we all share the same interests,” Kagame stated.

The president added that Africa must stop depending heavily on outside solutions and instead focus on using its own resources, talents, and opportunities to shape its future.

The forum, which runs for two days in Kigali, has attracted African leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, and development partners from across the continent.
