A prayer for the recovery of Janet Museveni was among the emotional moments during the inauguration ceremony of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
Uganda’s Anglican Archbishop prayed publicly for the First Lady, asking God to heal her illness and continue protecting the Museveni family.
President Museveni attended the ceremony dressed in a white shirt, black trousers, black shoes, and a khaki cap, while the event venue was largely decorated in yellow, Uganda’s national political color associated with the ruling NRM party.
A military parade lasting around 15 minutes was held before Uganda’s flag was lowered to mark the completion of the ruling party’s sixth term.
Museveni, who won January’s election with 71.6% of the vote, will now lead Uganda until 2031 under a new five-year mandate.
His son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, stood close to him throughout the military ceremony.
Justin Nsengiyumva represented Rwanda at the inauguration event.
