Tensions in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo intensified Friday after the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC/M23) alleged that drone strikes and ground offensives targeted Minembwe.
Spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka said the strikes began early in the morning and caused civilian casualties. He accused those responsible of violating international humanitarian law.
Minembwe, situated in South Kivu Province, has long been a flashpoint in the region’s complex conflict dynamics. Armed confrontations between various groups and government forces have contributed to repeated displacement and humanitarian crises.
