President Paul Kagame has made key changes in senior government positions, appointing Col Régis Rwagasana Sankara as Deputy Director General in the Office of the President and Viviane Mukakizima as Deputy Director General in the Office of the Prime Minister.
The announcement was made on October 10, 2025, by the Office of the Prime Minister, highlighting continued efforts to strengthen governance and efficiency across government institutions.
Mukakizima, who recently served in the same capacity within the President’s Office, is a seasoned professional in communications and media, with a career spanning over a decade. She previously worked with Reuters and has been part of the Presidency’s communications team since 2012.
She is also the Vice Chairperson of the RBA Board, contributing to the growth of the national broadcaster.
On the other hand, Col Rwagasana Sankara brings vast military and leadership experience. Before his new appointment, he coordinated military affairs in the President’s Office, a position he held since 2021.
He graduated top of his class from the RDF Command and Staff College and studied at Belgium’s Royal Military Academy (ERM).
These appointments are expected to boost coordination and performance within top government offices.
