Rwanda is taking a major step to address the long-standing shortage of artist-friendly venues by constructing new performance halls in Kigali and other districts.
Currently, most concerts are forced into BK Arena, Camp Kigali, or Kigali Convention Center. While these spaces are functional, they were not built for music, making them costly and less effective for quality shows. For example, artists spend millions on extra sound systems or rent expensive tents, raising production costs.
Recognizing this gap, the government partnered with KOICA and Imbuto Foundation to build modern cultural centers in Busanza and Kicukiro. These venues will be equipped with professional sound systems and stages, designed specifically for concerts and performances.
Tetero Solange, Director General at the Ministry of Youth and Arts Development, confirmed that 30 additional youth and arts centers will also be built nationwide. Kigali City Council has further pledged to develop more affordable infrastructure over the next five years.
These investments mark a turning point for Rwanda’s creative industry, opening doors for frequent, affordable, and high-quality concerts.
