Kagame: Rwanda–Egypt Land Swap to Unlock Regional Market Access

Rwanda and Egypt have sealed new agreements to deepen economic collaboration, with a focus on investment, infrastructure, and healthcare. The deals were signed on September 23, 2025, during President Kagame’s official visit to Cairo.

Central to the agreements is a land exchange: Rwanda granted Egypt 10 hectares in Kirehe District near the Tanzanian border, while Rwanda secured land in Egypt for commercial activities. Kagame said the arrangement will help both countries access wider regional markets.

“These agreements build on a strong foundation of cooperation,” Kagame noted. “Our nations see shared opportunities in food processing, tourism, advanced technology, and manufacturing.”

He also highlighted progress in health partnerships, including Egypt’s training of Rwandan doctors and the joint construction of a cardiac treatment center in Kigali.

On September 22, ahead of the signing, Rwandan and Egyptian business leaders met in Cairo to discuss investments in construction, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and agriculture.
