Kirehe District, Rwanda — Residents of Nyakarambi town in Kirehe District are celebrating the inauguration of the new Nyabikokora Cell office, a modern facility that replaces the old, worn-out building that had long been a source of embarrassment for the community.
The new office, built at a cost of Rwf 30 million, reflects Nyakarambi’s growing status as an emerging secondary city. Locals say the facility will not only improve service delivery but also enhance the town’s image.
“Our town is growing with modern buildings, but our cell office was the only one left looking old and unattractive. We are very proud that the leadership responded to our request and built this office,” said resident Dan Rugazola.
Previously, residents seeking services faced challenges due to congestion, limited space, and disruptions during community meetings. Chantal Uwimana, another resident, noted that the old office could not host multiple services at once, which often caused delays.
With the new facility, however, residents can now access different services simultaneously — from community health insurance (mituweli) to mediation (abunzi) and administrative support — in a more convenient and dignified setting.
Kirehe District Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development, Modeste Nzirabatinya, emphasized that the building is part of broader efforts to provide quality services and a modern outlook to Nyakarambi, one of Rwanda’s fast-growing secondary cities.
“The first priority is for residents to be welcomed in a clean, well-equipped space, which improves service delivery. At the same time, this building contributes to the modern image of Nyakarambi as a support city to Kigali,” Nzirabatinya said.
He further encouraged residents to maintain the facility, seek solutions through local leadership without hesitation, and actively contribute ideas for community development
