A French court has ended investigations into Agathe Kanziga Habyarimana, ruling that the widow of former Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana will not face charges over the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The decision follows years of legal challenges from survivor organizations and an appeal filed earlier this year by prosecutors. Judges concluded there was insufficient evidence to pursue the case.
Kanziga has lived in France since 1994 under state protection. Critics argue her case highlights France’s unresolved role in Rwanda’s genocide, while her supporters welcomed the ruling as a final closure.
