Kigali, Rwanda — Team Rwanda (boys) and Team Mali (girls) emerged as champions at the 2025 edition of the Giants of Africa Festival, following exciting finals held at the state-of-the-art Zaria Court in Kigali.
The festival brought together 320 young athletes from 20 African countries, all competing and learning through basketball. This marks the second time Rwanda has hosted the prestigious event, after first doing so in 2023.
Rwanda Wins Boys’ Championship Against Senegal
In a thrilling boys’ final, Team Rwanda claimed victory over Senegal with a close score of 27–24, securing the championship title in front of a passionate home crowd.
Mali Claims Girls’ Title with Win Over Senegal
In the girls’ category, Team Mali defeated Senegal 20–16, showcasing their strength and teamwork to take home the trophy.
All-Star Game & MVP Honors
Following the finals, a mixed All-Star game took place, featuring standout players from both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
Two players were awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors:
- Kayijuka Dylan from Rwanda (boys’ MVP), recognized for his outstanding performance and leadership on the court.
- Oummou Koumare from Mali (girls’ MVP), praised for her skills, energy, and consistency throughout the tournament.
Festival to End with Star-Studded Concert
The Giants of Africa Festival 2025 will officially close on August 2, 2025, with a massive concert featuring some of Africa’s top music stars, including The Ben, Timaya, Kizz Daniel, and Ayra Starr. The event will take place at BK Arena and is expected to attract thousands of fans in celebration of African youth, sports, and culture.
