Rwandan leaders have emphasized the importance of African-led solutions to the continent\u2019s security and development challenges during a strategic conference attended by senior military officers and academics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The discussions focused on foreign interference in African affairs and the role of natural resources in promoting sustainable development across the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rwanda\u2019s Defence Minister, Juvenal Marizamunda, said Africa must strengthen regional cooperation to effectively respond to growing security threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Marizamunda said the tragedy demonstrated that Africans cannot depend entirely on foreign powers during crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He praised Rwanda\u2019s progress under Paul Kagame, saying the country rebuilt itself by taking responsibility and making bold decisions after the genocide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe stressed that Africa\u2019s future should be shaped by Africans themselves in politics, security, and economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He called on African nations to work together and avoid divisions that could weaken the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conference is organized annually by the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College together with the University of Rwanda to help senior officers better understand Africa\u2019s current and future security challenges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
